It is not necessary to travel in a 4 x 4 vehicle to get to Thorn & Feather. The last 500m of road to the property is in  poor condition. It is advisable to have a vehicle with high clearance and / or to drive slowly and carefully. There are steep slopes on both sides.

+- 30 min … 4 km BEFORE Heidelberg : RIGHT “Witsand & Port Beaufort” R322

2-3 km ….climb a hill, passing small power substation on right + farm with old tractor monument (right) LEFT at sign “Vermaaklikheid”

Gravel Road +- 20 min to Vermaaklikheid. Passing wheat farms, sheep, and ostriches.

T-junction & sign “ Vermaaklikheid(and Witsand), LEFT to Vermaaklikheid. Cross over the river. Climb a steep hill.

T-junction & sign “Heidelberg, Vermaaklikheid) RIGHT.

Pass through farm lands and undulating terrain ….you are in Vermaaklikheid when you see random spread of quaint stone cottages. Stay on the “main road”, pass olive farm, old “Poskantoor”, small church (on right side); exit the hamlet and climb a small hill +-300m

RIGHT to OSHOEK, See signs “Gersh and THORN & FEATHER”.  1.5 KM, flat terrain followed by a 700M steep descent to the river – drive slowly. 100m before the river, RIGHT – two rock pillars and gate. Please park undercover. Your accommodation is directly opposite the entrance (other side of the road).
